THE SHANACHIE IRISH PUB TO SPONSOR CONTEST AT NEW OPEN MIC EVENT

JUNE 11, 2009,  AMBLER, PA --  THE SHANACHIE Irish Pub & Restaurant, 111 E Butler Ave, Ambler, with Ambler-based Slot-1 Recording Studio, is sponsoring a contest geared for SINGER-SONGWRITERS at its new Open Mic event, beginning Wednesday, June 24, 9 PM.

The contest will run for 12 weeks on Wednesday nights, with weekly winners who will compete in two final rounds on September 16, and September 23.  Prizes will be offered weekly, along with Grand Prizes for the top 3 contestants to be chosen in a final round on September 23.  Prizes will include recording studio time, performance opportunities, among other awards.

Contestants will be judged based on originality, musicianship, audience rapport and response, and overall performance skills.  Genres include folk, Americana, blues, acoustic rock, country, Celtic, pop, and other acoustic styles of music.  Contestants are encouraged to perform original material, but may perform other songs that will be judged on their ability to make a song “their own.”

Ed Egan, co-owner of The Shanachie, started the Open Mic on May 27, 2009, along with Rick Denzien of Slot-1 Recording Studio, who serves as MC.  The Shanachie, which offers live traditional Irish music, opened its doors in 2007 to Denzien and duo-partner Debra Lee who perform as LYRA PROJECT,  to host a Songwriters Open Stage, now presented every third Sunday of the month.
